Frequently Asked Questions
How much do the lessons cost?
Prices are $30 for 30 minutes, $45 for 45 minutes, and $60 for a one hour lesson.
Do you teach beginners?
Yes. I teach all levels from absolute beginners to seasoned pros. Generally I don't take kids under the age of seven, however I will make some exceptions based on the individual child.
How often are the lessons?
Lessons take place once a week. We will schedule a regular time based on my availability and yours.
How long are the lessons?
Intermediate and advanced students should consider taking 60 minute or 45 minute lessons. Beginners should stick with 30 minutes to start out.
Do I have to commit to lessons or can I just try one?
The first lesson is an introductory lesson. I will assess the student's level and we will go over some of the fundamentals of drumming - the grip, the stroke, basic reading, the single stroke roll etc. We can chat and get to know each other a little bit. The student can then decide whether or not they would like to continue and can inform me at the end of the lesson, or go home and think it over for a little bit, then get back to me. If the student decides to continue, we will then set up a weekly lesson time. There is no pressure and no strings attached.
What hours do you teach?
Lesson hours vary based on availability. Most lessons take place between the hours of 3:00pm-9:00pm, Mon-Thurs. I will do my best to set up a time that is convenient for you. Just give me a call or email. Unfortunately I do not teach on the weekends.
Do I have to have a drum set to start lessons? If not, what do I need?
You do NOT need a drum set to start taking lessons. The only requirements to start lessons is to purchase a practice pad, a pair of sticks, and one or two books. I do not recommend rushing out to buy a drum set. The student should become familiar with the fundamental techniques of drumming before making the investment in a set of drums.
I'm an advanced or professional drummer can you help me improve my skills?
Are you a Rock drummer that wants to learn how to play Jazz, or improve your 4-way coordination? Do you want to learn how to solo and improvise? Are you interested in improving your time feel and learning to play other styles like Afro-Cuban, Reggae, Soca, Brazilian etc? I can help you expand your horizons and hone your skills.
